A “WALL OF UNITY”THE UNREST, THE EXTREMISM, and THE RADICAL DIVISIONS (Old & New)
HOW Can We Make Sense of the Recent Senselessness In Our Nation & World? WHEN Will Sanity Be Restored? WHAT Are We To Do?
JOIN TOGETHER FOR THE WEDNESDAY EVENINGS (7:15-8:45 p.m.) OF AUGUST AT ST. JOHN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, WARSAW, to open ourselves to these “listening sessions” as a people with deep longings for restoration. We will “visit” our own “Wailing Wall” as do many Jewish people every day in Jerusalem at the temple mount, which is their “wall of prayer” as they beg God to restore that unity of purpose which has been taken from them for centuries and centuries. (This is NOT a political exercise or problem solving) Some evenings may include a short presentation, but it is mostly discussion & listening. Bring a friend. Arrive to start at 7:15; plan to depart no later than 8:45. Well air-conditioned, and please come dressed very casually. Let’s build our own Wall of Unity in spirit.
Mahatma Gandhi: “Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”
Starts August 3rd. Come for refreshments, and come to listen to others and share if you choose. Call, text or e-mail Peter Hogg, Interim Rector: 757-635-3557 / phogg123@gmail.com St. John’s: 5987 Richmond Road, Warsaw Office: 804-333-4333.
Register for FALL CAMP - Marilyn gives it TWO THUMBS UP!
This year's Fall Camp, Oct. 24-27 with keynote speaker Barbara Cawthorne Crafton, promises to be another opportunity to gather at Shrine Mont with over 125 folks from all three Episcopal Dioceses in Virginia. Fall Camp is an opportunity to spend time in the mountains of Virginia with other seniors (but we don't have an age limit) from across the Commonwealth and from other states. The Camp is an attempt to take seriously the spiritual needs and journeys of primarily retired people. We attempt to challenge participants through keynote speakers, workshops, worship and interaction with one another. We worship together in daily sessions, explore various issues, and participate in one or two session workshops (each session is an hour and a half) on a variety of topics. In addition to the scheduled activities, there is plenty of time to sit on the porches, visit with friends, relax, and enjoy the amazing scenery and to explore the surrounding area.
I just wanted to remind you that there is an awesome opportunity to enjoy your friends and other Episcopalians from around Virginia at beautiful Shrine Mont. I am including the link so that you can visit the site and read about it for yourselves. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask Toni or me. We attended last year--my first experience--and I highly recommend it! A chance to renew and refresh; delicious food; compelling workshops. -Marilyn Day
